Davis Museum (1993)

A true hybrid of painting and sculpture, this series was made by painting on flat, dense slabs of Hydrocal - right up to the edge. The edge becomes a place of disappointment, the place where painting's illusion is ultimately undercut, contested, and questioned.

The Casting Process

The following snapshots were taken during the casting process used for Berkeley Street (1991), Split Palm (1993), and L.A./Encino Riots (1992-1993), two of which are featured above. Shannon Flattery provided invaluable assistance.
